Portraits

Under portraits you can find a selection of portraits I’ve taken in both black and white and colour.  Many of the black and white ones are a bit more  ‘arty’ because black and white is a wonderful medium to work with when it comes to portraiture and I’ve always loved the work of photographers like Man Ray and Cecil Beaton.  The colour ones tend to be more ‘straight’, although I tend to change that soon and play around with art and colour a bit more.  I find that even taking professional portraits it’s possible to get a natural look – not the frozen, fixed smile – on the person and make them look as natural as possible.  I also enjoy getting people’s best sides, giving them pictures of themselves that they can really look good and enjoy having and using.  As much as I’m behind the camera, I’m rarely in front of it as I’m terribly unphotogenic and I know how happy I am the rare times I manage to get a picture of myself that I actually like and I’m always keen to do the same for other people.  I have a separate page for portraits of children which are also all in colour.  I love working with kids; I get along with them very well and there’s so much emotion and expressiveness to capture with them.

Er, the addition of a page for cats is mostly because I’ve photographed so many cats (mine, particularly, but also kitties from all over Europe) and, to be honest, I’d be quite happy to snap some pictures of any beloved pets.  I know how much they can mean to us.  Also, this is a website and I’m pretty sure the internet was created as a giant database for cat pictures.  If you come up with any captions, feel free to comment.
